Tuoer micro fast charging solution family bucket - 67W car charging hard core disassembly

MOMAX has introduced a dual-port car charger. The car charger is equipped with 1A1C two output interfaces. The USB-C interface supports 67W output, the USB-A interface supports 18W output, and the upper limit of power is 67W when the dual-port outputs simultaneously, supporting dynamic power distribution.

The USB-C port adopts the voltage rise and fall scheme, which can also output 20V under the condition of 12V input, further improving the compatibility.

Now let's disassemble this car charger, and take a look at the internal fast charging scheme and design of the Torr Microstrip.


Mormis 67W car charger

The car charging PCBA module is composed of two PCBs, which are long strip and round.



The built-in boost and boost controller of the car charger is from Tormicro, model TMI5700. It is a synchronous boost and boost controller that supports 34V input voltage. It adopts peak current control mode. The output voltage supports FB pin and I2C interface adjustment, and PWM duty cycle adjustment.

The TMI5700 operating frequency is set by external resistance. The setting range supports: 100KHz-1MHz. The soft start function is supported, which can reduce the impact current of starting. The light load operating mode supports FCCM and DCM options. The chip has input undervoltage and overvoltage protection function, periodic peak current protection, input average current protection, output average current protection, output overload protection, output overvoltage protection and overheating protection.

A step-down converter is welded on the back of the PCB. The step-down converter is a 30V synchronous step-down converter with a model of TMI2286D. It has a built-in switch tube, supports internal loop compensation, output line loss compensation, internal integration of soft start and overheat shutdown, and supports 100% duty cycle. It has undervoltage shutdown, overheat shutdown, soft start and input overvoltage protection.



Tuer Micro TMI2286D is suitable for car charging, adapter, portable equipment and other applications, and adopts SOP8 packaging.

Two protocol chips and a VBUS switch tube are welded on the back of the small board.



The two protocol chips both adopt Tuer Micro IM2406, which is a protocol chip with a single USB-C port and supports USB-A port applications. The chip has obtained USB-IF PD3.0 certification, TID: 6174. Support QC2.0/QC3.0/QC4.0/QC4.0+fast charging protocol, and support SCP and FCP and other fast charging protocols.



IM2406 is internally integrated with MCU and Flash, VCONN power supply and E-Marker cable detection, built-in constant voltage and constant current control, internal integrated discharge MOS tube, programmable line loss compensation, and NMOS as VBUS switch. It supports I2C interface and can communicate with other chips.

Tuer Micro IM2406 supports the use of external resistors to select PDO, external NTC thermistors for overheat protection, with overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent and overheat protection functions, CC and data pins support 8KV static test, applicable to USB-C adapter, vehicle charging and mobile power supply, etc., and adopts QFN4 * 4-16 package.

After disassembly, it can be found that this car charger uses a full set of Tuer micro-fast charging solutions. The USB-C port step-down circuit uses TMI5700 synchronous step-down controller, the USB-A port step-down circuit uses TMI2286D synchronous step-down converter, and the protocol chip uses two IM2406 for two interfaces respectively. The internal design of the car charger is compact, the inductance and other components are fixed by glue, and the input and output are filtered by solid state capacitor, which is reliable and stable in the overall design.
